Some mementos of Finchden Manor which I attended from September 1964 to September 1967.

Pottery.

I was taught pottery by John Stevenson - another boy and great friend with whom I shared a room at the time.

Blue Pot Brown Pot Unglazed pot Dance decoration
Clay dug and aged by me, thrown, fired and glazed by me. As for blue one. Note small pieces of plaster of paris have absorbed water after 34 years and have expanded enough to chip the pot I think this was the second pot I made. About 18 inches tall. Dance picture for the "Japanese garden" dance, sometime in 1964, painted by one of the staff

Plays

I always seemed to end up doing the lighting - probably because I liked it. Here is the programme for "One Way Pendulum" by N F Simpson. An (C 1935-1967 GAL) hilarious farce.

People

In October this year (2000) I met up with John Stevenson again for the first time after nearly thirty years. We met at Roydon Hall where I had been staying for the weekend with my wife. Here are some photos I took as we were saying goodbye.

Here at last: Some daily memories

A few pages written down of all my memories so far of life at Finchden. These were largely inspired by John Stevenson's Jam-jar pages to whom many thanks. I also hope he will use as much of this as he likes on those pages.

Whoever you are you can download it but it is encoded and I will only give you the password if you ask me nicely! (and I don't mind you reading my memories!). Download it here PDF logo(file size 194kb). You will need Adobe Acrobat to read it - see the link at the bottom of the page.

Old Boys Reunions

Nick Morse has restarted these. One has been held in London each year since September 2000. The pattern now seems to be the second weekend in September. For details of forthcoming reunions and photographs and reports of past ones go to the main web site at http://www.finchden.com and follow the links to the Old Boys Pages or just click here.

Finchden Manor is for sale

Unfortunately only part of it but read more... and see interesting photos and floor plans.
